Week of June 18th

Wow, it is hard to believe that this is our last week of school! Looking back I wonder, where has the time gone? This has been such a great year filled with so many precious memories. To celebrate this year, students will be making mini-scrap books or also known as memory books. These little books will be filled with pictures and recounts of their fondest memories. Once their books are finished, they are encouraged to share their book with their peers and then bring it home to share with their families.
Besides from the creating of books, students will participate in other end of the year / fun activities.
On Monday, students will have the opportunity, if they desire, to present their animal projects.
On Tuesday, we will have our last science class together and by request, we will watch the Magic School Bus Catches a Wave. Students are encouraged to bring a snack to eat while watching the movie. Keep in mind that soft drinks, pop/soda, is not permitted.
On Wednesday, we will watch the Madagascar 2 movie to conclude our on-going debate of should there or shouldn't there be zoos?
On Thursday. The remaining school supplies will be cleaned out and sent home.  We have have a games hour in which students can play board games with their peers. In order for this event to be a success, students will need to bring their games to play.
On Friday, we will go to the Danville pool. The bus leaves at 12:45 and permission slips will be sent home on Monday. At lunch time, we will have a class picnic in the classroom.

Otherwise, we will maintain as regular of a schedule as possible.

I wish everyone a safe and happy summer holiday. It has been a pleasure teaching this marvelous group of students .... best of luck in Grades 5 and 6!

Sincerely,

Miss Portfors

This week, we have begun research projects on animals. The students will use books and the Internet to gather information on the animal of their choice.
The final project and how they present the information is up to the students. So far, some students have decided to create Power Point presentations, posters, replicas and the likes.

Homework for the week of May 22

By popular request, I have sent the homework for next week home today. This way, the students have a few extra days to work on it.

The homework this week includes:
- Picky Penguin Pens: A geometry problem solving activity in which they use toothpicks to design the penguins' pens.
- Camp Arrowhead: Answering question about the bar graph.
- Multiplication, division, addition and subtraction reviews. Please review these with your child as the sheets are coming back to school with mistakes.
- Equivalent Fractions: We practiced using fractions in class today and completed the first 5 questions together. If they get stuck, encourage them to draw a picture. I recommend that if you have access to the Internet, please play some of the fractions games listed on my blog. They are under the math section. All of the websites listed there are the websites I strongly recommend.
-A very short reading comprehension activity.

I wish everyone a safe and relaxing long weekend.

I look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday May 22nd.
